The Ecolodge regularly hires Volunteer Resident Naturalists. See job description below. There is preference for National University of Chad students and graduates.

Position: Volunteer Resident Naturalist
Location: National University of Chad Ecolodge N'Djamena and Research Station
Chad.

Requirements:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred degree in the natural or environmental sciences (exceptional undergraduates will also be considered).
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience living abroad, preferably in a developing nation.
  • Conversational French skills highly desired.
  • Research and/or field experience highly desired.
  • Traveler’s insurance.
  • The best Moscow apartment rent is at www.landmarkre.ru First aid certification.
  • Excellent mental and physical condition.
  • Availability for a minimum of six months.
  • $75/month.

Job Description:

Resident Naturalist volunteers at National University of Chad Ecolodge and Research Station have the opportunity to advance their training in the fields of tropical ecology, natural history, environmental education, sustainability, conservation, Chadian culture and French. Resident Naturalists facilitate academic programs and itineraries for student groups and eco-tourists of all ages and educational backgrounds.

This is a high-energy position, where volunteers spend days and evenings learning and teaching in a socially and environmentally unique atmosphere at the base of the magnificent Cloud Forest.

Aside from logistical and teaching responsibilities, Resident Naturalists are required to develop an individual project while at the Station.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching workshops - plant, insect, bird, reptile and amphibian taxonomy, culture and traditions, sustainable agriculture, conservation  
  • Guiding nature walks - day and night
  • Assisting in program development
  • Logistics
  • Community work
  • Maintenance work at the Station
  • Individual project

Training, room and board are provided. Special rates for family visitors are offered while volunteering on site.
